A Stylus-Generated Artificial Genome with Analogy to Minimal Bacterial Genomes

One of the founding editors of BIO-Complexity, Douglas Axe began investigating the functional constraints on enzymes as a postdoctoral scientist at the University of Cambridge. This work led to a position at the famous Medical Research Council Center in Cambridge, where he refined a method for quantifying the information in genes. One of the resulting papers, titled Estimating the prevalence of protein sequences adopting functional enzyme folds, has received widespread attention in many places, including books, film and television documentaries, and the major motion picture Expelled. As the head of Biologic Institute, he is continuing and expanding his own research while also helping to build an international community of scientists and engineers who are breaking ranks with Darwinian orthodoxy by forging a new design-based approach to biology.
